Who says you can't make great last minute plans for New Years Eve?
What had been very exciting New Years plans quickly disintegrated on Dec 30th due to miss communication
(among other factors). It was beginning to look like I was going to spend the night at home (alone) watching
Dick Clark's rocking New Years Eve. Talk about fun! On the 31st my friend, Erica, mentioned that our buddy
Brian had an extra ticket to the Aqua Turf gala, which I kept insisting on calling AstroTurf(!), did I
want to go? To be honest I wasn't all that sure because my previous plans being canceled was still irking me.
After a few minutes of turning it over in my head, I figured it would be stupid not to take her up on the offer.
After all I was good friends with the group of people that were there, why get down about something I had no control over
and ruin my New Years? So that night I drove out to the Aqua Turf about 6:30 to meet Erica and the gang... They
said "Oh, we'll be there by 6:00 at the latest!". As I get into the main
ball room I ask the guy at the desk where my party is sitting. He asked the
ticket number and told me "Sir, you're sitting at tables 73 & 76, the Shultz
party.". Hmmmmmmm. Schultz. That doesn't sound familiar. After entering a really nice ball room I find my tables.
The people there are all older and I'm thinking "Maybe there is a mistake. I'll look
around for Erica, Greg, Brian or Sara and have a beer or two (three?). Then next hour I
spend looking for them and not seeing ANYONE I know. Now I'm thinking "This
New Years is quickly becoming an ABSOLUTE disaster." Finally close to 7:30 I go ask the
guy at the main desk about tables, since Schultz's was filling up fast with people I didn't know.
Turns out I was in the wrong ballroom!!!! A nice young lady gave me an
escort out to the right room. When I get to Erica's table she asked "Where
have you been? I thought you were coming at 6:30?"!!! Ha Ha Ha. The rest of the evening was fantasitic and we all had
a great time!
Happy New Years 2004!
