Snowfall in Hades
Can you believe it?!?
The Lion's Head crew made good time heading towards the top of Mt. Washington with Craig hanging with the pack, socializing and having fun but still in the lead. It looked like another championship was a done deal for Craig as he crested the mountain. But, at the top were Jim and Al with grins from ear to ear. Seeing John and Kirk had it all in hand, Jim and Al made excellent time up Tuckerman's and saw Craig and the rest of the gang below them. Sensing an opportunity that may never happen again, they made double time up the hill. Jim made it to the top first and Al was right behind him. Both were ready to greet Craig, who was surprised but took the defeat in good spirits, congratulating both guys but vowing revenge next year.

injuries prior to the trip it looked to be a painful climb up the mountain. Kirk injured his back on the ill-fated Saco 2006 adventure, Bokon twisted his ankle badly a few weeks prior while preparing for the climb and finally Salemi rolled his ankle the day before the trip. Despite all this and the rookie, Pat Ferry, deciding to climb in sandals we had our second perfect climb in three years: Nine up and Nine down. The crew split up at Lion's Head with half heading up the more difficult trail. Bokon, climbing despite some obvious pain, chose the more difficult path with John M, Pat, Craig and Kevin. Kirk and John played it a bit more conservatively and hiked up the usual, Tuckerman's ravine. Joined by Al and Jimmy the four headed towards the top. Slowed by aches and pains John and Kirk told the other two to push on, they would make it up in their own time. Little did they know that destiny was circling. Prodding each other along, complaining, sweating and laughing the two actually made decent time up the hill, about three hours and six minutes. Upon reaching the top they learned that history had been made. See Snowfall in Hades for more information. After some time eating and messing around all nine headed down Lion's Head; finishing the evening at Delaney's with some much needed rest and relaxation. Another Mt. Washington adventure in the books.
Hotties, Hotties everywhere!
When did it become the in thing for hot girls to climb Mt. Washington? This question was on all the guys minds as they made their way up to the top. On all the previous climbs there were very few women and most of them could best be described as 'crunchy'. In 2006 it all changed, a good number of the women on the mountain were very attractive, and dressed in some darn reveling climbing outfits. Yes, it is possible to have a revealing hiking outfit! Maybe it wasn't such a bad idea to wear cool-water up the mountain, as one nameless member of our crew did. As if we didn't need a reason to go back in 2007!
Living like Kings...
Craig comes thru again! Each year Craig hooks us up with a great timeshare right outside North Conway. This year he told us that our normal place was unavailable but had found something even better. A couple of us were wary until we saw the new pad: three floors, 8 beds, a deer head mounted in one room and plenty of showers. We tip our hats to Craig.
